Pat Boone
In A Metal Mood

Fifties recording star Pat Boone has become a headbanger ... performing heavy-metal ditties.

Pat Boone has taken flak from fans as well as foes of heavy-metal music since the release of his new album, Pat Boone in a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy in which he covers the "metal classics" of groups such as Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Judas Priest and Guns 'N' Roses. After the squeaky-clean teen idol of the fifties appeared in a leather vest sporting tattoos, dog collar and earring, a religious-broad-casting network yanked his weekly gospel show because some viewers were convinced Boone had gone to the devil.

Just noticed that there hadn't been any comments on this album yet, so I wanted to leave one. Whether anyone wants to believe this or not, this is REALLY quite a good album. It's not MOR, as Pat is normaly known for. It's not Metal, as the songs in their original versions are known for. No, what this is, is a very good Jazz Vocal album, in which Pat demonstrates his jazz chops (which he's let shine before, but never quite to this extent) and uses the format of metal compositions to do so. Don't be afraid of it, just listen to it, and you'll see what I mean.
