Wasn't this done a few years ago by the Rubber Band? Sure was, and it was fabulous. Nevertheless, the Fab Four, a fairly well-known Beatles tribute band, have met them on the field of battle, bringing with them not one, but two full albums of Christmas goodness. The Fabs take the same approach to their tunes, even attacking some of the same songs (inevitable, I guess) as the Rubber Band, but there's plenty to choose between the two, and Beatles fans won't be sorry to have all three in their collections. The Fabs cut a wider swath across the history of the Beatles -- the two CDs are even (coincidentally) color-coded the same as the famous Beatles 62-66 and 67-70 collections to tip off committed listeners -- and their vocal impressions, particularly of Paul and John, are more authentic. Some of the more inventive arrangements include "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" via "When I'm 64" and "Honey Pie," "Silent Night" as "Norwegian Wood," "The Christmas Song" as "Here, There and Everywhere," "Good King Wenceslaus" sung to "Tell Me What You See" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" as "Within You Without You." An extra treat on Fabulous is "Dear Santa," a cut from Ringo Starr's Christmas album done to the arrangement of "Oh! Darling."

1 Santa Claus Is Coming to Town (2:08) / 2 Silent Night (3:10) / 3 Christmas Song (2:45) / 4 God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (3:05) / 5 Little Drummer Boy (3:34) / 6 Dear Santa (3:27) / 7 What Child Is This? (4:37) / 8 Blue Christmas (3:51) / 9 Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree (2:49) / 10 Jingle Bells (2:38)

Harry Nilsson/Ringo Starr

Son of Dracula (VHS rip)

1974 movie starring Ringo Starr and Harry Nilsson. Ringo as Merlin and Harry as the son of Dracula. This rare film is hard to find, quality is far from perfect but, considering the rarity of this title, better than nothing.

Story:
The Count has recently inherited his father's title as ruler of the netherworld, and all the monsters are already arriving in London for the coronation party. Still, though, Count Down is unsatisfied; it seems he's a budding composer, more interested in music-making than evil-doing. When he falls in love, The Count considers giving up his immortality for the sake of a normal life. But first, he and Merlin will have to outsmart the nefarious Baron Frankenstein, who has his own plans for the Count.

Harry Nilsson - The Presence Of Christmas

A Heartwarming Anthology of Stories, Poems and Songs that capture the spirit of Christmas, including the stories "The Boy Who Laughed at Santa Claus," "My Christmas Miracle," and "A Visit from Saint Nick". The songs are performed by Harry Nilsson.

This collection was produced by Harry's cousin, Doug Hoefer, for Harry's Hawkeye Entertainment. The Presence of Christmas without Harry's songs was originally direct marketed by Mutual Media in November, 1986. A sixty-second TV commercial was aired in about 20 cities. Only about 100 copies of the album where sold. Presented here is the 1988 release from Dove. Exept for the albumart it is the same as the 1995 US re-release.

1 "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful" / 2 "Silent Night" / 3 "Joy To the World" / 4 "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" / 5 "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing"

Some Interresting facts: The hymn "Adeste Fideles" was written in France sometime in the mid 1700s. The composer is unknown. In 1841, Frederick Oakeley translated the Latin words of the hymn into English as "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful".
Although German composer George F. Handel is usually credited with composing the melody for "Joy To the World", the music was actually composed in the early 1800s by American composer Lowell Mason. The words to the song are based on a 1719 translation of Psalm 98 by Isaac Watts. Mason set the words to music and attributed the composition to Handel.

Emitt Rhodes - Farewell To Paradise

This is Emitt's fourth and final album. It is once again a one-man-band affair. However, it does differ from his earlier efforts. Emitt dropped the Paul McCartney and Harry Nilsson sounds and finds a style of is own. This album also finds Rhodes experimenting with other instruments. Although not as buoyant as his earlier efforts, Farewell to Paradise is still a very strong album from one of the forgotten great artists of the 70's.

1 Warm Self Sacrifice / 2 See No Evil / 3 Drawn to You / 4 Blue Horizon / 5 Shoot the Moon / 6 Only Lovers Decide / 7 Trust One More / 8 Nights Are Lonely / 9 Bad Man
10 In Desperate Need / 11 Those That Die / 12 Farewell to Paradise

The Merry Go Round (feat. Emitt Rhodes) You're a Very Lovely Woman/Live! (MONO MIX)

The debut of Emitt Rhodes as a force to reckon with, "You're a Very Lovely Woman/Live!" is, according to some sources, rather a thrown-together collection of singles and demoes than a real album. Well, it's nice either way. The Merry-Go-Round itself didn't last very long, giving way to Rhodes's much-celebrated solo career after a mere one album and a few singles.

"You're a Very Lovely Woman/Live!" only recently came back into print on CD via Rev-Ola's wonderful "Listen Listen: The Definitive Collection;" before that, it was only available on a very-hard-to-find Japanese A&M CD.

The jewels of this collection are "You're a Very Lovely Woman" and "Time Will Show the Wiser" which both differs markedly in its mono single mix.

Tracks:
1.Live / 2.Time Will Show the Wiser / 3.On Your Way Out / 4.Gonna Fight the War / 5.Had to Run Around / 6.We're in Love / 7.You're a Very Lovely Woman / 8.Where Have You Been All My Life / 9.Early in the Morning / 10 Low Down / 11 Clown's No Good / 12. Gonna Leave You Alone"

The best of The Merry Go Round featuring Emitt Rhodes

©1985 Rhino records

The Merry Go Round are one of all-time best kept secrets. Revered by a loyal group of fans, the splendor of the group's music never reached the mass audience it deserved.

The band:
Emmit Rhodes (Lead Vocals)
Gary Kato (Guitar)
Bill Rinehart (Bass)
Joel Larson (Drums)

The foursome released several singles including "Live" and "She's A Very Lovely Woman" before releasing their only album in 1969. There were obvious similarities to the Beatles but the band was distinctly American.
The LP was released on Rhino Records in 1985 and long out of print.

Tracks:
1.Live / 2.Time Will Show the Wiser / 3.On Your Way Out / 4.Gonna Fight the War / 5.Had to Run Around / 6.We're in Love / 7.You're a Very Lovely Woman / 8.Where Have You Been All My Life / 9.Early in the Morning / 10 Low Down / 11 Clown's No Good "

Tracks:
1. Ice Queen / 2. Empty Houses / 3. Insolent Lady: Bye the Way/Small Thief/Insolent Lady / 4. Miracle Worker / 5. Religion / 6. Sun God (Awakening/Realization/Worship)"

Raw Material was a progressive rock band whose both original albums (released in 1970 & 1971) are now very rare and sought-after. Even the re-releases on CD from 2001 are no longer available.

Their first album includes a couple of strong, long tracks: "Time And Illusion", which has a long instrumental break and vibraphone on leading role; "I'd Be Delighted", which features strong vocals, good flute and sax work and "Fighting Cock", which builds in strength after a mellow beginning. The finale, "Destruction Of America", is a poetry recitation with melotron backing and with lyrics wich could have been written today, just listen, you'll understand...

The LP was released on Evolution Records in 1970. Presented here is the Russian re-release from 2001 wich included bonustracks 9-12.

Harry Nilsson
Nilsson

At the end of 1964, Harry Nilsson signed a contract with Tower, a label recently formed by Capitol Records. Harry recorded a few singles for Tower. This album is a compilation of all four of the singles (and their respective B-Sides) that were released during his tenure on the Tower label (1964 - 1966), plus two previously unreleased tracks. and it was released as Spotlight On Nilsson in 1966. Emi/capitol re-released the album early 70's, probably to cash in on Harry's success. I don't know when it was released exactly because there's no mention of it on the label or on de cover..

Although the songs are available as "Spotlight On Nilsson" allmost nothing can be found about this Emidisc release wich has a beautiful sleeve by an unknown artist (mayby it's by Patrick who made some beautiful sleeves (like this one) for EMI). Let me be the first to show this albumart to the world.

Tracks:
1 "The Path That Leads to Trouble" / 2 "Good Times" / 4 "I'm Gonna Lose My Mind" / 5 "She's Yours" / 6 "Sixteen Tons" / 7 "Born In Grenada" / 8 "You Can't Take Your Love (Away From Me)" / 9 "Growin' Up" / 10 "Do You Believe"

Louis Prima
The Capitol Collector's Series
A must have for all swing fans.

Louis Prima was an innovator without equal. Jump blues/jazz icons Louis Jordan and Slim Gaillard shared Prima's penchant for combining R&B with swing and good humor, but Prima's cross-section of influences is as singular at it is striking. When Prima made his major impact in the pre-rock & roll '50s, it was a downright bizarre experience to see/hear an Italian-American combining blues, swing, pop, R&B and Italian songs in a wild, unfettered style that foreshadowed the arrival of Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. If you're a newcomer to Prima's work, you'd be hard pressed to find a better introduction than this 26-track compilation that includes his most popular material. With R&B saxman Sam Butera and singer (wife) Keely Smith as his foils, Prima was an arresting, original voice in American music, and this collection makes the reasons plain.
