Harry Nilsson
Nilsson

At the end of 1964, Harry Nilsson signed a contract with Tower, a label recently formed by Capitol Records. Harry recorded a few singles for Tower. This album is a compilation of all four of the singles (and their respective B-Sides) that were released during his tenure on the Tower label (1964 - 1966), plus two previously unreleased tracks. and it was released as Spotlight On Nilsson in 1966. Emi/capitol re-released the album early 70's, probably to cash in on Harry's success. I don't know when it was released exactly because there's no mention of it on the label or on de cover..

Although the songs are available as "Spotlight On Nilsson" allmost nothing can be found about this Emidisc release wich has a beautiful sleeve by an unknown artist (mayby it's by Patrick who made some beautiful sleeves (like this one) for EMI). Let me be the first to show this albumart to the world.

Tracks:
1 "The Path That Leads to Trouble" / 2 "Good Times" / 4 "I'm Gonna Lose My Mind" / 5 "She's Yours" / 6 "Sixteen Tons" / 7 "Born In Grenada" / 8 "You Can't Take Your Love (Away From Me)" / 9 "Growin' Up" / 10 "Do You Believe"

Louis Prima
The Capitol Collector's Series
A must have for all swing fans.

Louis Prima was an innovator without equal. Jump blues/jazz icons Louis Jordan and Slim Gaillard shared Prima's penchant for combining R&B with swing and good humor, but Prima's cross-section of influences is as singular at it is striking. When Prima made his major impact in the pre-rock & roll '50s, it was a downright bizarre experience to see/hear an Italian-American combining blues, swing, pop, R&B and Italian songs in a wild, unfettered style that foreshadowed the arrival of Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. If you're a newcomer to Prima's work, you'd be hard pressed to find a better introduction than this 26-track compilation that includes his most popular material. With R&B saxman Sam Butera and singer (wife) Keely Smith as his foils, Prima was an arresting, original voice in American music, and this collection makes the reasons plain.

Cat Stevens - Blue Monday

©2007 AppleCore

Previous released on the bootleg "Beatles - Sink In The Can". A very strange compilation of tracks. There's even a bootleg of this bootleg with the original Lee Dorsey song "working in the coalmine"credited to the Beatles.
Everything what should not be on that album is omitted to create a fine Cat Steven Album.
The sessions of Cat Stevens with Ringo have now been compiled in the correct order.

Harry Nilsson
Pussycats

When the Walkmen did a note for note rerecording of this, it reminded me to pop it off the shelf and give it a listen. If you can get past the mid-70's production sheen, especially the way the horns sound (shudder), it's a damn fun spin.

Pat Boone
In A Metal Mood

Fifties recording star Pat Boone has become a headbanger ... performing heavy-metal ditties.

Pat Boone has taken flak from fans as well as foes of heavy-metal music since the release of his new album, Pat Boone in a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy in which he covers the "metal classics" of groups such as Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Judas Priest and Guns 'N' Roses. After the squeaky-clean teen idol of the fifties appeared in a leather vest sporting tattoos, dog collar and earring, a religious-broad-casting network yanked his weekly gospel show because some viewers were convinced Boone had gone to the devil.

NEAL SMITH
Platinum God

In 1976, The Alice Cooperband broke up. Alice made his "Welcome To My Nightmare", Bruce made "In My Own Way" and Neal started recording an album but didn't finish it. And that's a pitty because although it aint as good as Alice's album it's much better than Michael Bruce's. Well, he did finish it in 1999.
Neal gets help from Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Mike Marconi. Together they started Billion Dollar Babies, see a previous post. Also playing is long time friend Richie Starlet who also did play at the last concert of Glen Buxton in 1997. Jack Douglas produced the album.

Billion Dollar Babies - Battle Axe

In 1977, three of Alice Cooper's former sidemen recorded a little known album without the influential shock rocker and called themselves the Billion Dollar Babies. That year, ex-Cooper employees Mike Bruce (guitar, vocals), Dennis Dunaway (bass) and Neal Smith (drums) teamed up with keyboardist Bob Dolin and guitarist/ singer Mike Marconi and named themselves after Cooper's Billion Dollar Babies album of 1973, which was his biggest seller. Offering competent but unremarkable hard rock and arena rock that wasn't nearly as distinctive or as interesting as Cooper's own music, the Billion Dollar Babies recorded Battle Axe for Polydor in 1977.

The LP bombed commercially, and the Billion Dollar Babies never recorded a second album. Battle Axe has been out of print since the late 1970s and is unlikely to ever officially be reissued on CD.
