Johan Timman - Trip Into The Body (1981)

©1981 Fleet/Ariola 203911
256 Kbps

Johan Timman released this album of electronic music in 1981. Nobody had heard from him before (but he had played in the Dutch progressive rockgroup Think Tank) and nobody has heard from him again (although he played on Bolland & Bolland's "In The Army Now")
-
"Trip Into The Body" is a conceptalbum about... A trip into the body (you would never have guessed). He wrote, recorded, produced and played all the instruments (Moogs, vocoders) himself. The music has aged very well and sounds quite fresh. A comparison to Kraftwerk, Kitaro, Jean-Michel Jarre and Yello Magic Orchestra comes to mind but the concept and the music is more original. Well, it was in 1981.
-
Warning: Don't let young children listen to "The Brain", they could easely be scared by the BRAAAAIIIIINNNN.

-Tracks: Trip into the body [6:30] / The Brain [5:52] / The Heart [4:03] / The Blood (The march of the white and the red corpuscles) [6:22] / The Blood cells and the Antibodies (Look out for the killer) [5:45] / The Windpipe [0:43] / The Lungs [5:12] / The Hemoglobin [0:42] / Inside the Tympanic Cavity [1:21] / Hearing (Ocean of sound) [6:57]

Alice Cooper - School Days (The Early Days)

Warner Bros. 1973 (recorded 1969)
CD-rip 320 Kbps

You have a choice. You can turn me off..
(from "Beautiful Flyaway")

School Days is a compilation of the bands first two albums "Preties For You" and "Easy Action" wich are two of the strangest sounding albums of all time. Highly experimental, psychadelic rock with a twist.

I've read many reviews telling that these albums are bad. Well, if you expect another "School's Out" or "Killer" then you can be dissapointed, I guess. If you're listening with an open mind then you'll discover some great music. There are some great guitar riffs and the lyrics, although incomprehensible most of the times, fit in well.

I've made two changes. 1. I've replaced de lame live version of "Levity Ball" with a much better sounding studio version. 2. I've added the studio version of "Nobody Likes Me" as a bonustrack. This hilarious song (mini-musical!) is recorded in 1969.

Be warned though, these tracks are way different from other Alice Cooper songs. They are so strange you have to hear it for yourself...

tracks: Titanic Overture / Sing Low Sweet Cheerio / Today Mueller / Living / Fields Of Regret / No Longer Umpire / Levity Ball / B.B. On Mars / Reflected / Apple Bush / Earwings To Eternity / Changing, Arranging / Mr. And Misdemeanor / Shoe Salesman / Still No Air / Below Your Means / Return Of The Spiders / Laughing At Me / Refrigerator Heaven / Beautiful Flyaway / Lay Down And Die, Goodbye / Nobody Likes Me

Jackson Browne
Solo Acoustic Live
-
Soundboard recording 2002
320Kbps
-
For more than two decades Jackson Browne has remained one of America's most important musical voices. Solo Acoustic Live finds Jackson Browne delivering tender takes from his deep catalog, completely stripped of their Seventies-era excess production. Browne is in fine voice as he digs out tunes like "These Days" (first done by Velvet Underground singer Nico in 1968) and "Lives in the Balance" (a mid-Eighties anti-Reagan diatribe that sounds especially appropriate today). He wraps things up with a threadbare rendition of "The Pretender" that cannot mask the story of a youthful idealist being beaten down by the passing years. Needless to say, Browne's strength has always been songwriting, and Solo Acoustic delivers those songs with no extra baggage.

Vol I: 1987 / Vol II: 1990 / Vol III: 1996
CD rip 320Kbps
-
Not encumbered by budget restrictions or lack of songs, The Monkees recorded a substantial amount of material that never saw the light of day. In the early phase, it was due to an overabundance of masters, and later, it was because of a waning public interest. These are the periods from which these Missing Links Volumes are drawn from.

Harry Nilsson - A Touch Of Nilssongs

Released: Never, compilation made 2008
192Kbps
-
This is a compilation of Nilsson involved songs wich I gathered over the past years. Most of them are not very common, a few are collectors items, some are weird, a few are mashed-up but all are great.
-
01 A mash-up of "Just Let Go in LA" & "One" by DJ Earthworm.
02 A mash-up of "Starry Eyed Surprise" & "Everybody's Talking" by Paul Oakenfold.
03 This cover of "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" was recorded for Hal Willner's 1988 tribute album Stay Awake: Various Interpretations of Music from Vintage Disney Films. Nilsson donated his performance royalties from the song to the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. This is the complete track including Sun Ra's track "Technicolor Pachyderms"
04 The Heebeegeebees - Oh Me (What more can I say) is a parody on Nilssons' humming.
05 In 1974 Harry and Phil Spector wrote "A love like yours" together. Harry recorded it in 1975 with Cher and nicked the duo "Nilssonny & Cher" refering to the former partner of Cher, Sonny.
06 The monkees recorded "Daddy's Song". Davy Jones made this alternative version with a spoken part in the song.
07-18 Harry wrote these.
07 Lori Cullen - Me And My Arrow /08 Reid Jamieson - Nobody Cares About The Railroads Anymore / 09 Anthony Green - Me And My Arrow /10 Asylum Street Spankers - Think About Your Troubles / 11 Jonathan FireEater - Don't Forget Me / 12 David Cassidy - The Puppy Song / 13 Mary Hopkin - The Puppy Song / 14 Michael Nesmith - Rainmaker / 15 Pandemonium - 1941 / 16 The Turtles - The Story Of Rock'n Roll / 17 Mutual Admiration Society - Think About Your Troubles / 18 The Format - The Lottery Song.
19 John Lennon wrote "Old Dirt Road" together with Harry. This is the acoustic version by John.
20 - 22 Harry Nilsson and Phil Spector wrote these songs together in the 60's.
20 the Ronennetes - Paradise / 21 "This Could Be the Night" was recorded by the Modern Folk Quartet and was used as the theme to the rock concert film The Big TNT Show / 22 the Ronennetes - Here I Sit

-
This is an other out of print album by John Miles. Kind of John Parr/Cliff Richards rock with a reverie to Earth, Wind and Fire. "The Right To Sing" is a great ballad and could have been a big hit if he hadn't released "MUSIC' a few years earlier.
-

Take Me to My Heaven (3:31) / Song for You (4:09) / It Wasn't Love at All (4:42) / Ready to Spread Your Wings (4:49) / I'll Never Do It Again (4:53) / Heart of Stone (4:35) / Home (5:15) / Close Eyes, Count to Ten (4:29) / Carrie (3:48) / The Right to Sing (3:44)

Eric Woolfson
Freudiana
-
Released: October 11, 1990
EMI records.
-
1990's "Freudiana" was the last album that singer/composer Eric Woolfson collaborated on with Alan Parsons. The main reason to release this as a Eric Woolfson album instead of an APP album is that halfway the project Eric wanted to make a musical of it and Alan did not.
-
It features the same musicians that have played on APP albums including Alan Parsons, Ian Bairnson, Stuart Elliot, Chris Rainbow, John Miles and Eric Woolfson himself.
-
So, this is a Eric Woolfson album but it is much more a Alan Parsons Project album than any of Alan Parsons afterlife (man, were you able to listen to "a valid path" without pressing the next button for 5 times?).
-
Tracks: "The Nirvana Principle" 3:44 / "Freudiana" 6:20 / "I Am a Mirror" 4:06 / "Little Hans" 3:15 / "Dora" 3:51 / "Funny You Should Say That" 4:36 / "You're On Your Own" 3:54 / "Far Away From Home" 3:11 / "Let Yourself Go" 5:26 / "Beyond the Pleasure Principle" 3:13 / "The Ring" 4:22 / Sects Therapy" 3:40 / "No One Can Love You Better Than Me" 5:40 / "Don't Let the Moment Pass" 3:40 / "Upper Me" 5:16 / "Freudiana" 3:43 / "Destiny" 0:51 / "There But For the Grace of God" 5:56

Omar And The Howlers
Hard Times In The Land Of Plenty

- CD rip, 320 kbbs / Label: CBS 450948 2
Released in 1987.
-
Omar signed with CBS/Columbia Records in 1987 and cut "Hard Times in the Land of Plenty". This third album was a breakthrough for the band, receiving extensive airplay in the USA and Canada and earning an Edison award in Holland and sold in excess 500,000 copies!
-
Since then there have been another dozen albums, all of them featuring Omar’s guitar and voice, which reviewers describe as a cross between Howlin’ Wolf in his prime and the warning growl of a large primate. I didn't make this up myself, it's says so on his homepage.
-
The music is heavy bluesrock oriented. And if you happen to like swamprock than you got lucky because it has a strong Creedence Clearwater Revival feeling.
-
Tracklisting:
1. Hard Times in the Land of Plenty 2. Dancing in the Canebrake 3. Border Girl 4. Mississippi Hoo Doo Man 5. Don't Rock Me the Wrong Way 6. Same Old Grind 7. Don't You Know 8. You Ain't Foolin' Nobody 9. Shadow Man 10. Lee Anne

Eric Stewart - Do Not Bend

Strawberry Records ~224 Kbbs VBR
CD original released in 2003

In 1995 10cc released their final studio album "Mirror Mirror". The Album flops and Eric Stewart has no interest in milking the band's name any longer and goes solo. Eric took a little time to write and record (about 8 years...) and did make a return with this solo album "Do Not Bend", released in April of 2003.

This is his first solo album since 1982's "Frooty Rooties". Eric got help on background vocals but otherwise he does all the vocals and plays all the instruments.

Eric Stewart – vocals, guitar, bass, piano, synthesiser, drums and percussion, steel drums, brass / Sam Brown – backing vocals / Helen McRobbie – backing vocals / Louise Marshall – backing vocals

tracks:
You Can't Take It With You / A Friend In Need / The Gods Are Smiling / Fred and Dis-Audrey / I Will Love You Tomorrow / Sleeping With The Ghosts / Rappin' With Yves / Norman Conquest II / No No Nettie / Mr. Decadent / Do The Books / Set In Blancmange / A Human, Being / You Are Not Me

For those who downloaded Eric Stewart's GIRLS: There were two tracks missing! I've added them. Read the comments in the original post.

Herbie Armstrong
Back Against The Wall

- CD rip, 320 kbbs / Label: MMC
Released in 1983.
-
Now Herbie is running a Restaurant together with his Swedish-born wife Elizabeth, in Hampshirecalled The Fountain Inn & Thai Restaurant but once Herbie was a great musician.
-
Herbie's steps in music are very closely related to Van Morrison. It starts in 1964 when Herbie and Van played together in The Manhattan Showband and in Brian Rossi and the Golden Eagles. Van Morrison left to form Them, and asked Herbie to go with him, but Herbie stayed instead but they were re-united when Them stopped and Van starts making soloalbums. In the 70's and 80's Herbie plays on Van Morrison's albums. Herbie also played in Fox. They had hits in the 70's with "Only You Can", "Imagine Me, Imagine You" and "He's got Magic".

Micky Dolenz
Broadway Micky

Kid Rhino - R2 71676
CD-Rip 320 Kbbs
Released 1994

Micky Dolenz's follow up of his 1991's "Micky Dolenz Puts You to Sleep" album. This time more uptempo songs. This long lost album is chocked full of Broadway & Hollywood show tunes but luckely Micky doesn't copy the original versions. The songs all have new arrangements and Micky sings them if he wrote them himself (he must have learned that from his old master, Harry Nilsson).

Strangely enough most reviews tells you that Micky was not able to duplicate the wonderful spirit from "puts you to sleep" but I'm sure the reviewers haven't listen to this album once.
The songs are wonderful, the arrangements are great. Dolenz's voice is pleasant and diverse. You will love his take on these classic songs.

tracks:
01 Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (Sherman) / 02 Talk to the Animals (Bricusse) / 03 Somewhere Out There (Horner, Mann, Weil) / 04 Put on a Happy Face (Adams, Strouse) / 05 You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile (Charnin, Strouse) / 06 Never Ending Story (Forsey, Moroder) / 07 My Favorite Things (Hammerstein, Rodgers) / 08 Ease on Down the Road (Smalls) / 09 I Whistle a Happy Tune (hammerstein, Rodgers) / 10 Chim Chim Cheree (Sherman, Sherman) / 11 Me and My Arrow (Nilsson) / 12 When You Wish Upon a Star (Harline, Washington)

For Toto fans I've got 2 spinn-off albums.
1982, WEA Music, WMC5-434
David has recently sung on the new album of Tommy Denander. "All Dressed Up" was released in 1982. The sound of this album is really the one of Toto's because the Porcaro brothers and Steve Lukather supported on all tracks of this album.
-
1997 Noble House Productions
Tommy, a versatile and passionate guitar player, has recorded these songs with Jeff Porcaro, Mike Porcaro, Steve Porcaro and David Paich of Toto.

Walking Into Mirrors
-
320 kbbs / Album released in 1981.
Original lp was released by The Rocket Record Company
-
-
This relatively unknown artist at that time teamed up with Peter Gabriel, Jerry Marotta, Tony Levin, Larry Fast and others to produce a very interesting album. For all of us who enjoyed the experiments and sounds of Peter Gabriel in his third album, this was a "must-have" as it had several Gabriel's musicians playing in the album (and Gabriel himself appears in "Screaming Jets", one of the best tracks of this record).
-
If you are a Genesis / Gabriel / Collins fan, you must already be aware of this unique recording. In case you weren't aware that this existed then this is your chance
